Does this sound familiar?
- Stiffness when you turn your head, like checking your blind spot
- Aching or tightness in your neck and upper shoulders
- Headaches that start at the base of your skull
- Pain, tingling or numbness into your shoulder, arm or hand
- Pain that builds after long hours at a screen or behind the wheel
What may be going on
Most neck pain comes from the joints, discs and muscles of the neck working harder than they should. Long hours looking down at screens, stress, old injuries and the natural changes of aging can all play a part.
When a nerve in the neck is irritated, you may feel it in your shoulder, arm or hand instead, sometimes more than in your neck itself.
